Elizabeth's Garden

An old, bullheaded nun, when faced with her imminent replacement as caretaker of an aged graveyard, must learn to face the uncertainty of leaving her home

WRITER | DIRECTOR

SYNOPSIS

Sister Elizabeth is a 72 year old Anglican Sister of the Benedictine Order. For the past 30 years of her life, she has lived, worked, loved, and thrived in the small parish cemetery of Goodwill Passages. One fateful morning brings Abbess Joan Hammond to her doorstep with the news that she will be moved into retirement, back at the abbey, and replaced as caretaker of the graveyard by a younger, fitter sister. Elizabeth refuses to acknowledge the news and continues working and caring for the graveyard, avoiding the cold truth that her retirement approaches. John, a young boy sent by Abbess Joan to help in Elizabeth’s transition, has a personality starkly different to Elizabeth’s. It is his ability to trust the future and accept uncertainty that eventually helps Elizabeth come to terms with the changes occurring in her life
